Recently, a good news came from the Confucius Institute Headquarters / Hanban. The Chinese Language Center of Velaa College (Confucius Institute) in the Republic of Maldives jointly applied and operated by Chang’an University and HNMMC was officially approved, achieving the zero breakthrough in the construction of the Confucius Institute in our college. Our college became the first higher vocational college to host the Confucius Institute in China. The Center is also the first Chinese Language Center established in Maldives .

Since initiating the bid for the Confucius Institute project, the Party committee and administration have attached great importance to it, holding many special meetings to conduct research and coordination with careful deployment. With the support of the Confucius Institute Headquarters / Hanban, Hunan Provincial Department of Education, and Hunan Radio and TV Station, the college organized a capable bidding team to actively cooperate with the partner colleges on the specific issues in the establishment of the Chinese Language Center (Confucius Institute) through intensive consultations and meticulous application process, receiving a highly recognition from the Confucius Institute Headquarters / Hanban and evaluation experts. Eventually, it won the approval to hold Chinese Language Center of Velaa College (Confucius Institute).

The success in the approval to host the Chinese Language Center of Velaa College in Maldives shows that our college has been actively responding to the "Belt and Road" initiative for a long time and implementing the requirements of the "National Outline of Development Plan for Higher Vocational Education (2016-2020)". It is the outcome of strengthening international communication and cooperation by actively adapting to economic globalization requirements and the needs of the “going global” development strategy. Our college will set up a Council of the Chinese Language Center with the cooperating units, fully mobilizing the resources on and off campus and giving full play to the characteristics and advantages of schooling. More efforts will be put to start the various tasks of the Chinese Language Center, striving to make the Center into an important platform for local teachers and students to learn Chinese, get to know about Hunan, and understand China, and contributing to the development of friendly relations between Maldives and China.
