On the afternoon of December 14, the School of International Communication invited Peng Zerun, a second-level professor of Hunan Normal University and doctoral supervisor, to give a special lecture, titled by "The Promotion of the Standard Spoken and Written Chinese Language Promotion and Calligraphy".

At first, Prof. Peng introduced the main content of the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Standard Spoken and Written Chinese Language", and shared his experience to call on the students to establish legal awareness, consciously use mandarin and standard Chinese characters in daily life. Later, He encouraged the students to adopt critical and dialectical methods to treat traditional Chinese characters and inherit traditional culture by inheriting the vigorous and excellent traditional culture, and discarding the backward traditional culture that has a negative influence on our path of modernization. We should keep pace with the times, bring forth the new from the old and use the past for the present. Meanwhile, Prof. Peng introduced two trends in the development of Chinese characters: One is that Chinese written language would gradually adopt the form of word writing. The other was that Chinese characters would eventually turn to the development of phoneticization.

After the lecture, Prof. Peng patiently answered all kinds of questions raised by the students.
