Education and Teaching Reform

On September 9th and October 26th, Secretary of the Party Committee Yuan Weikun led a team to the School of Visual Arts and the School of Journalism and Communication to investigate on education and teaching reform.

On the 37th Teacher's Day on September 9, 2021, Yuan Weikun paid a visit to the teacher representatives of the School of Visual Arts and held a investigation and research symposium. At the meeting, the teachers proposed their opinions and suggestions on the existing problems in the reform and management of education and teaching, which were reflected in four aspects. First is the problem of teacher individual growth and organizational empowerment, including job attributes affecting professional title application, encouraging and supporting young teachers to improve their education background in pursuit of PhD, teacher training, teachers' cross-professional integration and exchanges, establishment of a guidance and assistance mechanism, giving full play to the role of professional leaders, the job transfer of full-time counselors, teacher psychological guidance and solving difficulties in teachers life and work, etc. The second is the implementation of talent incentives and remuneration promotion, including the introduction of high-level talents, incentives for high-level talents at school, recognition and commendation of teachers' work performance, establishment of performance evaluation mechanism, implementation of various rewards and incentives, and staying informed of the issuance of salary and treatment. The third is the professional guidance and service of functional departments, including specific guidance and services in terms of professional title review, financial reporting, project application, improvement of scientific research capabilities, and improvement of the counselor's duty environment. The fourth is the management of the training and practice base, such as refined management, the use of functions and benefits, and the maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Yuan Weikun fully affirmed the achievements of the School of Visual Arts in teacher team construction, curriculum and teaching reform, Party construction of the school Party branch, and the honors that teachers and students received in all kinds of competitions. Yuan emphasized that teachers should enhance their professional sense of honor, work happiness, and sense of career achievement. They should fulfill their job responsibilities in the fundamental task of strengthen moral education and cultivate talents, fully implement the Party’s education policies, and cultivate as much love to the college as to their own homes. It is necessary to improve the quality of teaching and research capabilities and talent training by enhancing the sense of work responsibility. Functional departments must strengthen their sense of responsibility, improve their ability to serve teachers and students, and effectively solve problems for teaching departments and frontline teachers.

On October 26th, Party Secretary Yuan Weikun, Vice Presidents Xu Jingxue and Lei Junlin led the principals of the Academic Affairs Office and other departments to the School of Journalism and Communication to investigate the reform of specialties and curriculum construction. Members of the Party and administration team, directors of teaching and research offices, and some backbone teachers of the school participated in the meeting.

Zhou Shu, the Director of the School of Journalism and Communication, reported on the situation and achievements in the construction of specialties and courses this year, and Qian Ying, the Secretary of the General Branch, reported on the work of the Party Construction building and student management. The teachers put forward constructive opinions and suggestions on the systemization of specialties and courses, construction of teaching materials, transformation and development of teachers, innovative team building, establishment of guidance and assistance mechanism, professional training of teachers, improvement of academic qualifications, construction of teaching resources database, maintenance of teaching facilities and equipment, and the establishment of a performance evaluation mechanism. Zhou Shu made six requests on behalf of the School of Journalism and Communication: The first is to support the school to build a provincial-level teaching resource database. The second is to support the school to apply for a provincial-level teaching team. The third is to support the school to continue to organize the micro-video event of the provincial vocational skills competition. The fourth is to support the construction of two Smart Classrooms in the school. The fifth is to optimize the professional title and academic structure of the teaching team of the school. The Sixth is to appropriately increase the office funding of the general Party branch.

Xu Jingxue and Lei Junlin mentioned that the School of Journalism and Communication has achieved many outstanding achievements in teacher teaching ability competitions, teaching achievement awards evaluation, student competitions, scientific research projects and achievements, curriculum construction, teaching routine management, and student management, which has not come easily.

Yuan Weikun emphasized at the meeting that the School of Journalism and Communication has achieved new results this year, created a new situation, presented a new atmosphere, and showed the vitality, cohesion, and combat effectiveness of the new leadership team. Achievements are the result of hard work. The school is expected to carry forward its achievements and make good results in specialties and curriculum construction. Yuan requested that the leaders and heads of functional departments participating in the investigation should meticulously summarize the problems and suggestions raised by the teachers, and come up with practical solutions based on the needs of the secondary schools, especially the current needs and urgent problems. The problems must be solved as soon as possible. As for the knotty issues, schedules and plans should be come up with accordingly. If it cannot be solved temporarily, explanation work must be done well. Functional departments must put more efforts into thinking, running errands, communication, taking more responsibility, performing more actual deeds, instead of passing the buck, playing bureaucracy and formalism. It is necessary to regard teacher and student as the center and take teachers and students satisfaction as the primary criterion for measuring the effectiveness of management work.
