From September 9th to 12th, at the coming of the 24th National Promotion Week for Mandarin, teacher Huang Jing from the School of Film and Television Arts of HNMMC college led a number of students to Yongshun County, Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, to carry out the 2021 "mandarin popularization to assist rural revitalization" social practice voluntary service for college students. In combination with the study and education of the Party’s history, and thematic publicity and education activities among the masses to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the volunteer group organized a variety of activities related to the excellent Chinese language culture for the purpose of promoting and popularizing the national standardized spoken and written language.
The "mandarin popularization to assist rural revitalization" activity was divided into three parts. The first one was conducted at school. With the assistance of the Education Bureau of Yongshun County, the practice team started to learn about the use of Mandarin among teachers and students of Xizhou Furong School through surveys and interviews. In the meantime, they gave full play to their professional expertise by teaching the students a remarkable Mandarin class. Chen Kaiwen, a student majoring in Broadcasting and Hosting, used an interesting game as the teaching method, leading students to learn Mandarin, reading funny tongue twisters, and reciting classic poems, which greatly enhanced the children's love for the language of their motherland.
The second part was in the community. Under a thoughtful arrangement of the leaders of the Chengbei Community in Lingxi Town, Yongshun County, the volunteers made a thorough investigation of the use of Mandarin. In a harmonious and cheerful atmosphere, they recited, sang, and danced together with the community residents. The team members told the story of Chen Shuxiang, a martyrs who cut his intestines to commit a suicide 's when he was captured by the enemy, and they also performed recitations and singing with feelings and affection. In return, the people in the community showed their hospitality, responding to them with songs -"Let's Paddle Together", "My Motherland", "Without the Communist Party, there would be no New China", and "Socialism is Good", one after another. Their applause was in line with the beat and mixed with loud laughter, full of joy, lingering in the air for a long time.
The third part was to reach to the grass roots. During the event, it coincided with the pre-job training for the new teachers in Yongshun County. More than 200 new teachers would soon work in primary and middle school in the villages and towns in Yongshun County. Teacher Huang Jing was invited by the Yongshun County Education Bureau to give them a special lecture entitled "Improving teachers’ charm by enhancing language literacy". In combination of theory and practice, teacher Huang, on one hand, pointed out the common phonetic problems of local teachers and the familiar language problems of teachers in class based on the characteristics of Yongshun dialect. On the other hand, she shared with them the scientific methods for sound production and teachers' language expression skills. The teachers who attended the lecture were highly involved and benefited a lot.
Using the revolutionary history to speak for itself and revitalizing the countryside with "elegant language", the School of Film and Television Arts completed the heavy task of social practice within just 4 days. They conducted the volunteer service activities in the remote villages in Hunan, and learned about the local situation in a practical measure to explore an effective way to connect the Party history education and mandarin popularization. It is of far-reaching significance to work on a course of mandarin popularization with revolutionary enthusiasm, and pass down on the revolutionary memories by tracing history with firm steps.
