Recently, 9 students including Song Xiaoya, from Digital Publishing specialty in the School of Journalism and Communication won three third prizes in the 7th "Taofen Cup" National Book Editing and Publishing Ability Competition among universities and colleges organized by the National Press and Publication Administration Awards.

The 7th "Taofen Cup" National Book Editing and Publishing Ability Competition among universities and college was sponsored by the National Press and Publication Administration and undertaken by the Publishers Association of China, Taofen Foundation, China Redactological Society, and the Steering Committee for the Publication of Teaching in Colleges and Universities . There are nearly 2,000 works from more than 60 colleges and universities in China, including Communication University of China, Wuhan University, Zhejiang University, Nankai University, Nanjing University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, and Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, with a total of more than 6,000 contestants.

Under the guidance of Chen Taozhen and Dong Juanjuan, teachers in the Digital Publishing specialty, three groups of works entered the final, making HNMMC the highest number of finalists (a total of seven groups) in Hunan Province. During the summer vacation of 2019, the participating students began preparations for the competition under the guidance of the teachers. They revised their works many times, and conducted multiple rounds of training under the guidance of the Hunan Press and Publication Bureau. In the finals, the three final teams of HNMMC competed with outstanding students from famous universities such as Communication University of China, Wuhan University, Nankai University, and Nanjing University, receiving the recognition and praise of the presented experts, and winning the honor for the college.
