School Introduction
The Visual Art School is a key construction school of the college. The school includes are two departments: the Cartoon Department and the Design Art Department. The Cartoon Department has four specialties: Film and TV Cartoon, Cartoon Design, Advertisement Design and Production, and Digital Media Art. The Design Art Department also has four specialties: Design Art, Environment Art Design, Interior Art Design and Character Image Design. The Film and TV Cartoon Specialty is a provincial-level select specialty, a provincial-level specially-selected demonstration specialty and a national key construction backbone specialty. At present, the school has over 2,000 students. The graduates of the specialty have been mainly distributed in Hunan province, the Pearl River Delta Area and the Yangtze River Delta Area in recent five years, working in cartoon enterprises and the media industry. In the past years, the employment rates of the graduates were always above 90%.
The school has a teaching team consisting of double-professionally-titled teachers headed by famous academic leaders in the industry. Currently, it has 58 working teachers, including 38 full-time teachers and 20 part-time teachers. It has 105 part-time teachers from the industry. At present, the school has 4 professors and 16 employees with sub-senior professional titles, including one provincial-level specialty foregoer, 3 experts who have been specially invited by Adobe China and 35 teachers who have passed the Adobe software certification.
Our school has very good conditions for school running such as good teaching conditions, good practice conditions and good skill certification conditions. Our teaching equipment and facilities are advanced and complete. We have 27 different experiment and practice rooms, two cartoon production and making bases based on the school-enterprise cooperation, and one film and television post production base. Among all the vocational colleges in Hunan Province, our college is the only one that has a professional motion capture system and a 3D render farm.
Our school adheres to the talent cultivation model based on the school-enterprise cooperation and the combination of production and study and focuses on cultivating the vocational skills and creative capacities of the students. It has successively cooperated with 20 companies in running the school such as Sunchime Cartoon Group Limited so that the students can have full practice and training opportunities and have much more chances to be hired.
Our school is the professional cartoon game teacher training base for the nationwide vocational colleges, the national (Hunan) cartoon game industry revitalization base-talent cultivation and R&D center, the professional skill-teaching level certification and training base for the cartoon and game teachers of all the vocational colleges in Hunan province, the selective professional skill examination standard development unit and organizer for the cartoon specialty students of all the vocational colleges in Hunan Province, and the secretary-general unit of the professional cartoon board of the vocational skill appraisal expert committee of Hunan Province. It is in charge of the vocational skill appraisal of Hunan Vocational Skill Appraisal Center such as the skill appraisal of decoration art designers, interior designers, cartoon designers, advertisement designers and advanced image designers.
Our school has achieved outstanding results in school running. It won the Government Award of Chinese Culture and Art in 2011 and became the only vocational college that had won such an award. It won the second award for the national-level higher education teaching achievements in 2014. The teachers and students of our school have successively won over 100 professional awards in the provincial-level or above competitions such as the Advertisement Design Competition for Chinese University Students, the Original Cartoon Competition for Chinese University Students, Hunan Vocational Skill Competition and the Cartoon Graduation Design Works Competition held by the National Vocational Education Committee. In recent years, the teachers and students have completed over 300 commercial projects. The first film cartoon Juvenile Mao Zedong describing a great man in China mainly created by the teachers and students of our school was completed in 2013 and it was released to the public in 2015. Many media organizations such as Hunan Satellite TV, Hunan Economic TV, China Education Television and China Education Daily have made some special reports on our school, which has caused strong social responses.

Film and TV cartoon specialty
The specialty cultivates technological and skilled talents who are qualified for 2D cartoon production, 3D cartoon production, interactive animation design and production, dynamically interactive interface design and production, game cartoon design and production, etc., mainly providing qualified talents for cartoon production companies, game production companies, media and advertisement companies, television stations, relevant enterprises and public institutions. The main courses include 2D animation production, original concept drawing design, animation motion skills, 3D modeling, animation storyboard drawing, 3D materials, lamplight and render, 3D animation and special effects, and film and TV cartoon post production.
Cartoon design specialty
The specialty mainly cultivates cartoon talents with high professional qualifications for commercial illustration, cartoon magazines, website editing, cartoon production companies, game design companies, etc., The main courses include cartoon character design, cartoon scenes, cartoon languages, black and white cartoons, commercial illustration and cartoon editing.
Advertisement design and production specialty
The specialty mainly cultivates technological and skilled talents who are qualified for film and TV advertisement production, advertisement planning and marketing for broadcasting stations, TV stations, advertisement companies, and film and TV production companies. The main courses include advertisement text writing, advertising principles, advertisement operation strategies, film and TV advertisement creation, 3DS and MAX animation fundamentals, storyboard creation, non-linear editing, special effects of digital film and TV in postproduction, and TV column packing.
Digital media art design specialty
The specialty mainly cultivates a lot of high-end interdisciplinary talents and skill-oriented talents such as e-publication designers, multimedia designers, interface designers, webpage designers, interaction designers, column titles packing designers, special effects designers of video postproduction and interactive game designers for various major new media enterprises, publishing houses, periodical offices, digital publishing units, network companies, media culture companies, advertisement companies and game companies. The main courses include webpage design and production, smart terminal APP design, special digital animation effects, new media display design, virtual reality production and mobile game production.

The specialty mainly cultivates technological and skilled talents who are qualified for advertisement design and production, book art design, corporate image design, interface design, etc., for advertisement companies, culture communication organizations, advertisement and publicity departments of enterprises and public institutions. The main courses include advertisement photography, 2D advertisement design, logo design, corporate image design, packing design, book art design, DM design, interface design, and webpage design and production.
Interior art design specialty
The specialty mainly cultivates technological and skilled talents who are qualified for interior design, display design, soft adornment design, furniture design, etc. for interior design and decoration companies, construction and decoration companies, furniture design companies, soft adornment design companies, etc. The main courses include residence space design, public space design, soft adornment design, furniture design, hand painting techniques, 3DS and MAX effect picture design, decorative materials and techniques, decoration construction and management, and construction budget.
Environment art design specialty
The specialty mainly cultivates technological and skilled talents who are qualified for landscape planning and design, construction drawing preparation, plant furnishing design, project management, project construction supervision, etc. for landscape design companies, planning and design institutes, the real estate industry, project construction and management companies, etc. The main courses include courtyard landscape design, construction drawing preparation, residential area planning and design, landscape project and construction drawings, landscape construction management, construction techniques and materials, landscape CAD drawing, landscape hand painting, computer effect picture preparation, landscape plants and landscape project budget.
Character image design specialty
The specialty mainly cultivates technological and skilled talents who are qualified for makeup and styling, hair style design, costume matching design, image consultancy, overall image design, etc. for film and TV crews, photography agencies, cosmetic companies and other relevant companies in the fashion industry. The main courses include professional makeup, plastic makeup, hair style design, costume design, jewelry design, portrait photography, manicure and color painting, film and TV character image design, overall image design and computer graphics processing.
