Recently, the “Across Mountains and Seas, Music Moves Taojiang” China‑Vietnam Artists’ Spring Festival Grassroots Concert was warmly held in the Bamboo Sea Scenic Area of Taojiang, Hunan. Zhang Yanchun, a faculty member from the School of Film and Television Arts of the college, was invited to perform, using her voice as a bridge to strike up a cross‑cultural musical dialogue and vividly demonstrating the profound friendship and mutual support between China and Vietnam, as well as the close bonds between their peoples.

After a joint selection process by Hunan Broadcasting System International Channel and Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) of Vietnam, Zhang Yanchun, with her solid vocal skills and strong cross‑cultural communication abilities, was successfully chosen as the Chinese lead singer for the core exchange pieces marking the 76th anniversary of the establishment of China‑Vietnam diplomatic relations: “Taojiang River is a Land of Beauties” and “Song of Shrimp and Fish”.

To creatively reinterpret these classics, she formed a cross‑national creative team with Vietnamese artists and conducted immersive fieldwork in Changsha and Yiyang in Hunan, as well as in Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau, and Phan Thiet in Vietnam. The team walked through the streetsand landscapes of both countries, experiencing the distinctive folk customs, authentic culinary cultures, and local daily lifeto draw creative inspiration. In adapting and performing the classic pieces, they remained true to traditional ethnic charm while organically integrating diverse musical languages, achieving a harmonious resonance between tradition and innovation, local character and international appeal.

Even before their official release, the works have already gained extensive attention from mainstream media in both China and Vietnam. The Chinese Consulate General in Vietnam issued a statement highly commending the cultural exchange outcomes, praising the efforts as “using music as a bridge to promote people‑to‑people bonds between China and Vietnam”. It is reported that this series of works will be broadcast simultaneously on New Year’s Eve of 2026 on the Spring Festival Gala stages of Hunan Broadcasting System International Channel and Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV).

The active participation of our faculty member in this cross‑national cultural exchange not only demonstrates her personal professional excellence but also represents the college’s proactive efforts to serve national cultural communication and promote Chinese‑foreign cultural and people‑to‑people exchanges. The college will continue to leverage its professional strengths, encouraging faculty and students to tell good Chinese stories through art, and thereby infuse sustained cultural vitality into the China‑Vietnam friendship.
