Recently, the official list of award winners for the 7th Chinese Classics Recitation, Writing and Speaking Competition – “Reciting China” Classic Recitation Contest, jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the State Language Commission, was announced. Faculty members and students from the Broadcasting and Hosting program of the School of Film and Television Arts at HNMMC both won National First Prizes, marking a historic breakthrough for the program in this prestigious national competition.
The award-winning entries were as follows: Who Is the Most Beloved, jointly performed by students Wen Xueying, Wu Cuilin, Zhang Jinxiang, and Chen Zhanbo under the guidance of instructors Hu Gaopei and Lin Qian; and In That Distant Place, performed by instructor Lü Xinyan.
Who Is the Most Beloved is adapted from the reportage by renowned writer Wei Wei and is a long-standing favorite among recitation enthusiasts. The key to this innovative interpretation lay in infusing the classic work with contemporary stage vitality. Through meticulous planning across multiple dimensions—including stage image design, character portrayal, and narrative structure—the two instructors crafted a compelling performance that not only created a memorable stage moment but also laid a solid foundation for students to gain experience in national-level competitions. In That Distant Place, adapted from Ordinary World by Lu Yao, tells a moving love story between a frontier soldier and a Tibetan girl. With a deeply expressive and emotionally engaged performance, Instructor Lü Xinyan conveyed the essence of the work with precision and depth, earning high praise from the judging panel.

The “Reciting China” Classic Recitation Contest is widely recognized for its broad participation, extended competition cycle, and significant social impact. Since the launch of this edition in September 2024, faculty and students from HNMMC advanced through multiple stages, including the campus round, provincial competition, national preliminary round, semifinals, and finals. Over nearly a year of preparation, the team demonstrated a rigorous pursuit of excellence, a spirit of quiet dedication, and close-knit collaboration, continually refining their performances. Ultimately, they represented Hunan Province in the vocational institutions category and the teachers’ category at the national finals, securing first prizes in both.
These dual honors stand as a vivid testament to HNMMC’s commitment to “promoting teaching through competition and fostering students through culture”, and fully highlight the professional competence of its faculty and students as well as the comprehensive strength of its teaching teams.
