During the summer vacation, HNMMC successfully co-hosted the “Malawi News Reporting Workshop” in Changsha. The program was sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, guided by the International Cooperation Department of the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), and jointly organized by the Research and Training Institute of NRTA and HNMMC. This workshop represents an important step in implementing President Xi Jinping’s “China-Africa Broadcasting, TV and Audiovisual Innovation Cooperation Initiative” and marks another achievement for HNMMC in serving industry-related international exchange and enhancing international communication capacity.

The workshop brought together 30 news officials and senior journalists from Malawian government departments and major media outlets. Its goal was to deepen China-Africa exchanges and cooperation in broadcasting, television, and online audio-visual fields; to showcase China’s — particularly Hunan Province’s — innovative achievements and development experience in the media industry; and to further enhance the international influence of Chinese broadcasting.

The workshop’s itinerary in Hunan was rich and immersive. Participants visited the Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Industrial Park, known as “China’s V Valley”, where they experienced cutting-edge 5G smart radio technologies. They also toured Changsha Radio and Television Station, Hunan Broadcasting System, and Mango TV, engaging in in-depth exchanges with leading Chinese media professionals. Through these visits, the Malawian guests gained a profound appreciation for the vitality and technological strength of Hunan’s media industry and expressed strong recognition of Changsha’s title as a “City of Media Arts” under UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network.

Cultural exchange was another key highlight of the program. The participants visited the Thousand-Year-Old Yuelu Academy, explored Tian Han Cultural Park in Guoyuan Town, Changsha County, and toured the Xunlonghe Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, where they experienced the deep cultural heritage of Hunan. They also took part in hands-on activities such as Tai Chi, tea ceremony, and guqin music, furthering their understanding and appreciation of Chinese traditional culture.

The delegation also visited HNMMC for academic and cultural exchange. Zhu Dan, member of the colleges CPC Committeeand Vice President, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the college, introducing HNMMC’s distinctive “industry-facing and campus-supported” and “bringing media into the campus” education models, along with its remarkable achievements in recent years. Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office, Xiao Yi, gave a presentation on the college’s international education programs, overseas student cultivation, and flagship project “Chinese Bridge”. After the meeting, HNMMC presented the Malawian guests with creative cultural products designed by teachers and students from the Digital Media Art and Design program cluster. The delegation was also accompanied on visits to the All-Media Integrated Training Center and the Hunan Radio and Television Program Production Base.

At the farewell, Mr. Timpunza Mwansambo, Executive Director of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for HNMMC’s thoughtful organization and warm hospitality. Grasping Vice President Zhu Dan’s hand, he said, “The arrangements were truly outstanding. On behalf of the entire team, I extend our sincerest gratitude to you.

The successful hosting of this workshop marks another remarkable achievement for HNMMC in high-level international training, following its previous successful organization of the NRTA Party School Cadre Training Program and the Latin American Media Professionals Workshop. In recent years, the School of Continuing Education of HNMMC has closely aligned its efforts with the goals of the “Double High” initiative and the strategic vision of “Building a Double High Institution and Developing Undergraduate Education”. It has actively expanded the vocational training market, deepened cooperation with the broadcasting and media industry, and continuously enhanced the quality and effectiveness of continuing education. These efforts have significantly strengthened HNMMC’s international influence and contributed to advancing the global reach of Chinese culture.
