To promote traditional Chinese culture and strengthen the sense of identity and belonging among faculty and students regarding traditional festivals, HNMMC recently held a cultural education event titled "Celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, Carry On the Tradition" in the campus canteen. The college's Party Committee members and Vice Presidents Cheng Guizhen and Zhu Dan attended the event, joining teachers from the Student Affairs Office and the Logistics and Infrastructure Department, along with over 100 Chinese and international students, to experience the customs of the Dragon Boat Festival and appreciate the charm of traditional culture.
Professional chefs from the canteen demonstrated the art of making zongzi—traditional glutinous rice dumplings—explaining each step in detail, from selecting leaves and preparing fillings to wrapping and tying the dumplings. Students actively participated, working together to complete their creations. The festive atmosphere was vibrant, filled with the aroma of glutinous rice and cheerful laughter. Many participants expressed that the event not only deepened their understanding of traditional Chinese culture but also conveyed the values of unity, friendship, and harmony of the Chinese nation. Fernau, an international student from Madagascar, said, "This is my first time celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival in China. It feels so new and exciting. By making zongzi and learning about the festival's culture, I've grown even more fond of China."
This cultural education activity enriched the campus life of both teachers and students, while also providing a platform to learn about and carry forward traditional Chinese culture. Moving forward, HNMMC will continue to establish a systematic and long-term mechanism for cultural education, revitalizing traditional Chinese culture on campus and injecting cultural vitality into nurturing a new generation ready to shoulder the mission of national rejuvenation.
