Recently, the 31st Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling of Hunan Province and the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) Hunan Regional Contest concluded. A team from HNMMC, guided by Zhang Yuanyuan, a teacher from the School of New Media Technology, and composed of students Wang Jiachen, You Liang, and Wen Miao, performed outstandingly in the contest. The team won the First Prize in the Hunan Regional Contest and was also awarded the title of "Outstanding Instructor".
The CUMCM was founded in 1992 and is one of the 19 competitions listed in the "University Discipline Competition Rankings". It has now become the largest foundational discipline competition in Chinese universities and the largest mathematical modeling competition in the world. In 2024, 1,788 institutions from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia participated, with a total of 65,761 teams (59,278 undergraduate teams and 6,483 vocational teams) and nearly 200,000 participants.
The School of New Media Technology has always been committed to exploring innovations and developments in the mathematical teaching system in universities. The school will continue to encourage students to actively participate in related competitions and extracurricular scientific exploration to broaden their knowledge horizons, foster innovative thinking and teamwork, and enhance their ability to apply mathematical methods and computer technology to solve real-world problems, ultimately nurturing more high-quality talent for the innovative development of mathematics and its practical applications.
