The First Board Meeting of the Chinese Language Center at Villa College, Maldives was Successfully Held

On June 14th, the first board meeting of the Chinese Language Center at Villa College, Maldives was held online. The meeting was held simultaneously at the venues of Hunan Mass Media Vocational and Technical College, Chang'an University and Villa College in Maldives by video link. Vice President Xie Jingwei and Wang Tao, Director of the International Exchange Division and council members from Chang'an University and Villa College attended the meeting. It was presided over by Zhang Wei, Dean of the International Education School, Chang'an University.

At the meeting, Fan Wen, Vice President of Chang'an University, Ali Najeeb, Vice President of Villa College, and Xie Jingwei, Vice President of HNMMC delivered speeches.

Fan Wen expressed his gratitude to all parties on the Council for working together to advance the preparatory work of the Chinese Language Center in spite of the challenges of the epidemic. He pointed out that the establishment of the Chinese Language Center at Villa College in Maldives is of great significance to promote the people-to-people contact between China and Maldives and the exchanges and mutual appreciation of diverse civilizations. In January this year, Mr. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Maldives and jointly launched the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries with Foreign Minister Shahid. As one of the important celebrations in the field of the cultural exchanges between the two countries, the unveiling of the Chinese Language Center of Villa College has attracted much attention. Chang'an University will continue to provide support for the development of the Chinese Language Center with a view to building it into an influential Chinese language teaching and research center in South Asia.

On behalf of Villa College, Ali Najeeb expressed his gratitude to the Chinese colleges and universities for their generosity of donating epidemic prevention materials during the epidemic. He said that Villa College had completed the renovation of the classrooms and offices of the Chinese Language Center, and would start the signing of the implementation agreement as soon as possible. They are now looking forward to the early arrival of the Chinese faculty and the official launch of the Chinese language teaching program. It is hoped that all parties will utilize the Chinese Language Center platform to deepen the cooperation in higher education between China and Maldives, using Chinese Language education as an entry point. Villa College is willing to work with Chinese institutions to prepare for the unveiling ceremony of the Chinese Center to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Maldives.

On behalf of HNMMC, Xie Jingwei extended congratulations on the convening of the meeting, and briefly introduced the characteristics of the college and the development of international education to the participants. He mentioned that HNMMC would adhere to the common aspiration of the three parties to build the Chinese Language Center at Villa College in Maldives by actively mobilizing resources inside and outside the school based on the features of a media college. Through the consultative mechanism of the Board, the college will make great efforts to strengthen exchanges, negotiation and cooperation for the mutual benefit and complementation with Changan University and Villa College, jointly accelerating the establishment of the Chinese language center, and contributing to the promotion of friendship between China and Maldives and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

At the meeting, the board members listened to the work reports, and exchanged views on the recent key work and development plans of the Chinese Language Center. The meeting reviewed and approved the implementation agreement of the tripartite cooperation to establish the Chinese Language Center at Villa College in Maldives, and discussed matters related to the dispatch of Chinese personnel.

This meeting has consolidated the consensus of all parties, clarified the orientation of the Chinese Language Center, effectively advanced the signing of the implementation agreement and the smooth dispatch of Chinese staff, and laid a sound foundation for the friendly relations and cooperation of all parties in the board.
