On May 22, the commemoration of the first anniversary of the death of Academician Yuan Longping was held in the Meritorious Plaza of Tangren Wanshou Park. In the middle of the square stood a towering monument. It was designed and produced by teacher Yin Jianhui and his students, paying the highest respect to Academician Yuan Longping with artistic expression.

Compared with traditional monuments, the design of Academician Yuan Longping's Merit Monument is a bit special. The main material of the monument is granite carving, and the rice ears and medals are forged with red copper, which can only be cast by thoroughly tempered. The total height of the sculpture is 8.117 meters, which corresponds to the number of "Yuan Longping Star" 8117. Yuan Longping Star is a main-belt asteroid discovered on September 18, 1996, by the Schmidt CCD asteroid project team of the Xinglong Observatory of the National Astronomical Observatories Of China in the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In October 1999, with the approval of the International Committee on Nomenclature of Small Celestial Objects, the asteroid was named "Yuan Longping Star" (8117 Yuanlongping) to pay respect to Yuan Longping, the "father of hybrid rice".

The outline of the monument adopts a tilling tool as the basic modeling language, which means ploughing and weeding. The rice ears in the middle continuously growing and straightening at the sky symbolizes the endless life, forging ahead and the great achievements of Academician Yuan.

Duan Qianyi, a student majoring in Environmental Art and Design of HNMMC who participated in the design of the project and is also a student of Mr. Yin Jianhui. Duan said that the entire project took more than five months from design to completion. The manuscript was modified and upgraded several times. Mr.Yin invested a lot of time and energy, striving for perfection, and they also experienced the ingenuity of the new era from the teacher's enthusiasm for art. Through this practical project, their professional skills have also been fully honed.

Mr. Yin Jianhui is a professional teacher in the School of Visual Art of our college and the Deputy Director of the Hunan Provincial Public Art Professional Committee. Mr. Yin said, “I have always treated this work with a sincere heart. It is my reverence to Academician Yuan, a paddy field watcher, and my actual deeds to practice the perseverance and responsibility of an art worker. In the design of the monument, I combined the ears of rice with the Medal of the Republic inlaid in the center of the monument., It resembles the “backbone” from the shape, which is the essence of this work. The national merits as Academician Yuan is exactly the backbone of our country and nation!”

A good seed must be planted in the fields, and a good ideological and political lesson must be taught on the land of the motherland. Together with his students, Mr. Yin stuck closely to important activities in the new era, and realized the dynamic unity of teaching, cultivating talents, and social services, teaching a lively ideological and political course to the students.
