The “Chinese Bridge” Online Winter Camp by HNMMC Completed Successfully

On February 19, 2022, the "Chinese Bridge" online winter camp sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation and organized by HNMMC came to a successful conclusion. At the online Completion ceremony, He Zhanbing, President of HNMMC, presented certificates of completion, outstanding students awards, and special contribution awards to students. Vice president Xie Jingwei delivered a speech. Hundreds of participants from Germany, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Madagascar, Gambia, Laos, and other countries gathered online to strengthen friendships and draw a satisfactory full stop for the 12-day journey of Chinese Language and Chinese culture with melodious charm and rich Hunan characteristics.

Vice President Xie Jingwei expressed warm congratulations to all the participants on their graduation on behalf of HNMMC and heartfelt thanks to the teachers and staff who worked hard for the success of the winter camp and praised the students for their unremitting and effortful study for 12 days. He sincerely invited students to study at HNMMC after the pandemic, to experience the international charm of our campus, and strive to be the envoy of cultural exchanges between their own countries and China, building the "Chinese Bridge" into a bridge of language, culture, friendship, and mind.

Two representatives of foreign teacher participants delivered their speeches on participating in the camp. As an experienced teacher teaching Chinese for more than 30 years, Ms. Zheng Xuanni from Montfort College in Thailand mentioned that this winter camp was well-organized, rich in content, and provided first-class quality courses, which not only allowed students to quickly improve their Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing ability in a short time, but also quite interesting that allows the participants to appreciate the Internet celebrity attractions and Hunan-flavored food with profound Hunan cultural heritage online. Li Shenghui, a teacher from the University of Finance and Economics in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, was once a contestant in the 17th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students. In this winter camp, he brought more than 30 Vietnamese students to participate in online learning and exchange activities. Six participants, including Ma Zhenxi from Germany and Michelle Michel from Madagascar, spoke on behalf of all students, expressing their gratitude to the "Chinese Bridge" program and the host college, sharing their feelings and gains in the winter camp, and showing their ardent wish to study and live in China. Ma Zhenxi, 28 years old, has once studied Chinese in HNMMC for half a year, and then returned to Germany to study for a doctorate. He said: “ I have learned about Changsha again by participating in the winter camp. I’m fond of historical stuff, especially interested in the Yuelu Academy and the Hunan Provincial Museum that teachers introduced to us. He hoped that when the epidemic is over, he would return to Changsha to enjoy tea and the scenery again and relive the good times when he was studying at HNMMC.

As the representative of teachers, Associate Professor Liu Shurong spoke highly of the students' serious learning attitude and high enthusiasm for learning in her speech. She reviewed many wonderful moments in her courses with emotion and was still very familiar with the students' active presentation in class and interesting moments during the interaction. She believes that this winter camp has not only benefited the participants, but also the teachers themselves. This “Chinese Bridge” online winter camp was themed with “Experience the Charm of Chinese and Appreciate Hunan Culture Online”. As an undertaker of the “Chinese Bridge” for 12 consecutive years, the college focused on the theme and integrated media elements with the substance of "Chinese Bridge", elaborately making a 12-day online course, including the thematic video courses such as "The World Media Art Capital- Changsha" and a video collection of "Chinese Bridge" competitions, the online study tours such as "An Online Journey to Hunan Provincial Museum", "An Online Journey to the Yuelu Academy", and the interactive live classes such as "Passionate Olympics", "My Chinese Dream" and "One World, One Family". It was a successful attempt of our college to promote international Chinese education in the context of the epidemic. Through online classes with rich content and various forms to learn Chinese, travel in Hunan, and experience Chinese culture, students felt the charm of Chinese culture and Hunan culture in the Chinese Spring Festival atmosphere.
