the Finals of the 18th Chinese Bridge-Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students Launched by the Top 30 Contestants versus "Chinese Sudoku"

On August 1st, HNMMC witnessed the first final of  the 18th Chinese Bridge-Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students.The top 30 contestants from five continents presented an intense and thrilling Chinese competition on the stage. This year's finals of Chinese Bridge competition launched a new concept of "Chinese Sudoku" and "VLOG Video Test", making innovative design on the program's questions and answering modes. The program invited Li Rui and Jin Mengjia from Hunan Satellite TV as the hosts, and Professor Zhao Dongmei from Peking University as the judge.

This year's Chinese Bridge competition set 8 finals. In the first final, 15 questions would be given, each of them should be answered within 20 seconds. One point for a correct answer, no point for wrong answers. The top 30 contestants answered all questions at the same time. The scores of the first to third finals of the contestants would be accumulated to the fourth final, when the top 15 contestants will be decided.

The first final was divided into three rounds: "Warm-up Competition of Listening", "Chinese Sudoku" and "Upperclassman Taking You to See China" (VLOG Video Test). The contestants were full of enthusiasm and answered the questions actively during the competition.

In the "Chinese Sudoku" section, the contestants encountered the questions based on the basic Chinese knowledge of characters, words and poems. They should choose the characters from the nine grids on the screen. In the face of more complicated options, they used their strong imagination and gave interesting answers. For example, when the contestants answered the words question of "xiao niao yi ren (as a little bird rests upon a man)", they showed the answer of "xiao ren yi da (as a little man depends on a big man)", "fei niao yi ren (a flying bird depends on people)", "xiao ren yi kao (a little man depends on)" and "xiao niao yi kao (a little bird depends on)". The words "lobbyist", "Chinese knight-errant" and "rare visitor" beat most of them. Among the 30 contestants, only Jin Leisheng and Lei Ruohua quickly gave the correct answers and explained the meaning of the words, showing their solid foundation in Chinese Learning.

In the final round, Da Mi who is the contestant of the 10th Chinese Bridge competition in 2011 drew up a theme by shooting VLOG, guiding the contestants to visit Yi Wu, the world-famous capital of small commodities, where they should complete the challenges of "buying globally" , "selling globally" and "eating globally". They needed to answer questions based on the video. For the topic "the nickname of the foreign patrolman at night", Lei Ruohua from the Nepalese competition region showed great interest and gave the correct answer through presumption. She explained, "geng, namely the middle of the night, fu generally means the person who does a certain job. So I got the answer of Yang Gengfu."

After three intense rounds, Chen Anyi from Morocco and Lei Ruohua from Nepal got the highest scorers in this final. Chen Anyi thought today's final was very fun. The questions were difficult, however, he enjoyed from the polyphonic characters questions in "Chinese Sudoku", considering it's a question that requires keeping your brain ticking over. Lei Ruohua said that he was extremely nervous at the beginning of the final, but controlled his emotions gradually. "Today's competition was very fierce, but everyone was excellent."
