School Introduction

There are eight specialties in the Journalism and Communication School: the Radio, Film and Television Program Production Specialty, the Journalism and Production Specialty, the Net news and Communication Specialty, the Photography and Video Recording Technology Specialty, the Film and Television Script writing and Directing (television script writing and directing) Specialty, the Film and Television Script writing and Directing (literature and art script writing and directing) Specialty, the Digital Publishing Specialty and the Radio and Television Technology Specialty. Among them, the Radio, Film and Television Program Production Specialty, the Journalism and Production Specialty and the Digital Publishing Specialty are the key construction specialties supported by the central finance. In 2015, the press, publication, radio, film and television specialty cluster of our school became one of the first key construction specialty clusters of the outstanding universities and colleges in Hunan Province. At present, our school has 2,300 students.

The school has a teaching team with the double-professionally-titled teacher qualification consisting of a group of excellent teachers who are provincial-level specialty leaders, front line key media workers, industry experts, etc. It has invited senior professional and business elites from all the major media, websites, press and publishing houses, etc. to act as the part-time teachers. The students of our school have won several dozens of awards in various national-level and provincial-level film and television program work competitions, guided by the teachers of the school.  

The school has excellent school-running conditions for teaching, training and professional skill appraisal. It has 8 program production laboratories with comprehensive functions, a (source power) teacher studio and a DV association. In addition, some resources in the college such as the campus television station, the film studio and the audio-visual classrooms can be shared. The school has 26 training bases inside and outside the college such as the Program Production Base of Hunan Broadcasting and Television Station and the Program Production Base of Golden Eagle Documentary Channel.

Each year, some students graduate from the school. This has continued for 14 years. Their year-end employment rates are all above 90%.

Specialty Introduction 

Journalism and production specialty 

The specialty is a key construction specialty supported by the central finance. The specialty cultivates high-tech and skilled talents with journalism and production skills who are qualified for news gathering, excerpting, writing, editing, production, planning, publicity, etc., mainly providing qualified talents for broadcasting and television stations, newspaper offices, periodical offices, websites, the publicity departments of the Party and government offices, enterprises and public institutions. The main courses include news gathering, news writing, photography techniques, television shooting, news editing, professional news covering and writing, in-depth reporting, news comments and non-linear editing.  

Net news and communication specialty 

The specialty cultivates high-quality highly-skilled talents who are qualified for information collection, editing, check and communication, media operation and management, website planning and promotion, etc., mainly providing qualified talents for small and medium-sized enterprises, network media, news and publishing agencies, grass-root departments of urban communities and social groups. The main courses include network news covering and writing, network news editing, network audio and video editing, special network reports and planning, network planning and management, and new media application.   

Radio, film and television program production specialty

The specialty is a key construction specialty supported by the central finance and a provincial-level teaching reform pilot specialty. The specialty cultivates high-tech and highly-skilled talents with good basic professional knowledge on television program production, a good understanding of the video content production work flow and the television program planning, shooting and post production editing and making capacities who are qualified for television editing, television post production, television work production, etc., mainly providing qualified talents for broadcasting and television organizations, film and television production companies, video websites, the publicity departments of the relevant enterprises and public institutions. The main courses include television editing, television documentary production, television program packing, media planning, photography and video recording, television column editing and directing, television music and sound, documentary (actual event video) creation, micro film (non-actual video) creation, television commercial production and website design.

Film and television editing and directing specialty (television editing and directing) 

Focusing on fostering television program editing ability, the specialty cultivates high-tech and highly-skilled talents with certain professional knowledge on television column planning, television program editing, directing and production, contribution, etc., mainly providing qualified talents for television stations, culture communication companies, video websites, the publicity departments of the relevant enterprises and public institutions. The main courses include television program recording direction, non-linear editing, television screen editing, television column planning, television column editing and directing, documentary preparation, television documentary production, film roll piece analyses and television music and sound.

Film and television editing and directing specialty (literature and art editing and directing) 

The specialty cultivates professional highly-skilled talents with good communication capacities and creative capacities who are qualified for completing the play script writing and drama direction of stage plays (mainly sketches and one-act plays) and film and television plays (mainly short television plays, DV plays, column plays and scene plays) based on good use of professional editing and directing knowledge and skills, mainly providing qualified talents for various professional theatrical companies, television column crews, film and television companies, various mass culture organizations, the culture departments of the relevant enterprises and public institutions. The main courses include play writing fundamentals, film and television play creation, scene play creation, film and television direction fundamentals and documentary creation.

Digital publishing specialty

The specialty is a key construction specialty of national backbone universities and colleges supported by the central finance. The specialty cultivates high-quality highly-skilled talents with good comprehensive press and publication qualifications, good mastery of the traditional publication standards and digital publication design and production technology, good new media operation and publishing knowledge who are qualified for digital publication content editing, creation, design and type setting, digital publication operation and marketing, mainly providing qualified talents for publishing houses, newspaper offices, periodical offices, private book companies, publishing groups, digital publishing enterprises, bookstores, websites, culture communication companies and the other relevant enterprises and public institutions. The main courses include network editing, interactive digital publication design and implementation, book editing practice, type setting and layout design, publishing data processing, new media marketing of publications and Internet bookstore operation practice.

Photography and video recording technology specialty 

The specialty cultivates high-quality highly-skilled talents with good creative capacities in picture photography and television video recording, mainly providing qualified talents for radio, film and television media and the news and publicity departments of other industries. The main courses include television photography styling, commercial photography, short television video shooting, news and documentary photography, television documentary shooting, recording technology and portrait photography lamps.

Radio and television technology specialty 

The specialty cultivates technological and highly-skilled talents who are qualified for program broadcasting control, transmission, network management, video transmission, receiving, equipment installation, equipment adjustment and maintenance, mainly providing qualified talents for radio and television stations, network transmission organizations, program production companies and e-communication organizations. The main courses include television technology, information technology fundamentals, digital logic circuit, high-frequency electronic circuit, television program shooting, stage lighting technology, digital television production and broadcasting technology and cable television technology.
