Recently, the national selection and domestic finals of the 2024 BRICS Vocational Skills Competition (BRICS Future Skills and Technology Challenge) in the Virtual and Augmented Reality Development category concluded in Chengdu. Competing against 36 teams from across the country, the student team guided by teachers Shan Yingxia and Zhang Lili from the Digital Media Technology major at the School of New Media Technology won second prize and earned the qualification to participate in the international competition held in Russia's main venue for this category.

The Virtual and Augmented Reality Development category integrates knowledge from multiple disciplines, including product design, computer science, and human-computer interaction. It consists of four modules: virtual model design and creation, virtual model rendering and production, development of cognitive functions for virtual products, and development of operational functions for virtual products. The competition lasts for 10 hours, thoroughly testing the participants' teamwork, modeling, programming, and adaptability under pressure. The School of New Media Technology placed great importance on this competition, with teachers Shan Yingxia and Zhang Lili leading the students in careful preparation, improving their skills through active training, enhancing communication, and strengthening teamwork. Their calmness and collaboration during the competition led to an outstanding performance and a remarkable achievement.

The BRICS Vocational Skills Competition, as an international skills event, focuses on key areas such as high-end manufacturing, the digital economy, emerging industries, new business models, and new technologies. It aims to enhance the innovation, coordination, organization, and cooperation abilities of faculty and students from BRICS vocational schools, cultivating high-quality, internationally-oriented technical talent. The School of New Media Technology will use this award as an opportunity to further integrate the competition outcomes into the cultivation of innovative, skilled, and practice-oriented talents, promoting the deep integration of international industry and education, and striving to build a new platform for the openness and collaboration of vocational education.
