“Grain Rain” (Guyu), one of the twenty-four solar terms of the Chinese lunar calendar, has been designated by the United Nations as the United Nations Chinese Language Day to commemorate the contributions of Cangjie, the "ancestor of Chinese characters". On April 19th, to celebrate the fifteenth United Nations Chinese Language Day, and in response to the call from the Center for Language Education and Cooperation and the ChinesePlus, HNMMC organized a series of activities titled "Exploring the Beauty of Chinese Language, Experiencing the Joy of Media" for the "International Chinese Language Day".
Centered around the theme "Chinese Language: Connecting Culture through the Bridge of Mutual Learning", international students from Madagascar, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, using Chinese as a bridge, explored the charm of the Chinese language, savored the beauty of Chinese culture, and experienced the joy of media professions, facilitating mutual exchange and learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations.
"A bosom friend afar brings a distant land near". — Accompanied by the melodious reading, international students kicked off the curtain of "Exploring the Charm of Chinese Language", reenacting the charm of classic poems such as "Sending off Vice Prefect Du for His Post in Shu". Subsequently, international students sang classic Chinese songs such as "Rice Fragrance" and "Jasmine Flower" on campus, showcasing the unique charm of Chinese music.
International students savored the beauty of Chinese culture through activities such as Guqin, Go, calligraphy, and tea. In the tea culture class, everyone brewed tea, tasted tea, and chatted about tea, experiencing the elegance and tranquility of Chinese tea culture amidst the lingering fragrance of tea. Students from Malaysia remarked, "Drinking tea not only boosts our immune system but also soothes our souls, keeping us physically and mentally healthy. Learning about Chinese tea culture is a window for us to understand the profound and extensive Chinese culture."
In the segment of experiencing the joy of media professions, international students visited the college's Omni-Media Training Center to see advanced broadcasting equipment, learn about cutting-edge media technology, and experience media work such as news gathering, broadcasting and hosting, embarking on a journey to explore media professions.
"Civilizations are colorful due to exchange, and enriched through mutual learning." This series of activities for "International Chinese Language Day" not only provided an exchange platform for international students but also demonstrated HNMMC's active exploration and fruitful achievements in the education of "Chinese Language + Media Professions". It lays the foundation for targeted training of professional technical talents needed for the "Belt and Road Initiative" and promoting high-quality co-construction of the "Belt and Road Initiative".
