Recently, the competitions for the "Community Service Practice" and "Vocational College English Speaking" categories of the 2024 "Chuyi Cup" Hunan Provincial Skills Competition for Vocational Colleges concluded at Changsha Social Work College. Under the guidance of Lei Zhenhua, a faculty member of the School of International Communication, Zhou Junjie from the Modern Secretarial Science class of 2101 won the second prize in the Hunan Province for the "Community Service Practice" category. Tan Xiao, a teacher from the Business English Teaching and Research Department, and Yang Yushi, a student from the Business English class of 2101, won the first prize in the professional group of the "Vocational College English Speaking" category. Meanwhile, Wu Lan, a teacher from the College English Teaching and Research Department, and Jiang Bosi, a student from the Broadcasting and Hosting class of 2102, were awarded the third prize in the non-professional group of the "Vocational College English Speaking" category.

It is reported that the "Community Service Practice" category was introduced for the first time this year as a province-wide competition aimed at the public management category, with a total of 29 teams participating. The competition comprehensively assessed knowledge in areas such as community laws and policies, governmental management, skills in policy consultation and mobilization, social investigation and needs assessment, as well as qualities such as love for grassroots work and service to the people. This year's "Vocational College English Speaking" category also adopted the "teachers and students compete together" format for the first time, divided into professional and non-professional groups, with a total of 83 teams and 166 teachers and students participating in the competition. Participating teachers not only served as competition instructors but also as contestants.

In recent years, the School of International Communication has consistently adhered to the guidance of the Party's policies, actively implemented the principles of educating people for the Party and the country, seized the opportunities of vocational education reform and various competitions, continuously strengthened majors construction and teaching reform, and improved students' political literacy and professional level.
