"The Great Doctors of Dong Village" is adapted from the true stories of Yang Wenqin and Tashi Zhima, a couple who were nominees for the 6th and 7th "National Moral Models", listed among the "Top Ten Most Beautiful Doctors" in China, recognized as " Good People of China" for their honesty and integrity, honored as "Top Ten Touching Hunan Personalities", and awarded the title of "National Civilized Family". The drama mainly tells the story of Yang Wenqin from the Dong minority in Hunan and Tashi Zhima from the Tibetan minority in Sichuan. Benefiting from the Party's ethnic policies, they went from impoverished border areas to study medicine in Beijing. After completing their studies, they voluntarily gave up the superior conditions in Beijing and returned to their hometown in Xinhua Dong Autonomous County, Huaihua, Hunan, which was then lacking in medical resources. For decades, they worked tirelessly in rural areas, visited more than 700 Dong villages, made over 300,000 medical visits, saved countless lives, and were affectionately known as "The Great Doctors of Dong Village" by the locals.
On the night of the performance, the theater at the Nanshan campus of Shenzhen Arts School was filled with continuous applause and cheers. Teachers and students of Shenzhen Arts School were captivated by the vivid characters on stage, fully immersing themselves in the ups and downs of the lives of Yang Wenqin and Tashi Zhima, the two minority doctors. The audience shared their joys and sorrows with the characters on stage, expressing their love for this original drama with the warmest applause and cheers.
After the performance, the audience commented that the performance was meticulous in every detail, including lighting, scenery, costumes, and makeup. Each actor's performance was spot on, deeply attracting the audience while also being moved by the selfless dedication of the spirit of doctors Yang Wenqin and Tashi Zhima. By watching this drama, which is rooted in reality, grassroots, and reflects the times, both actors and audience had a seed of patriotic sentiment planted in their hearts, which then took root and sprouted.
Industry experts present at the site also expressed their admiration for our teachers and students for creating an artistic work based on realistic themes, especially one that touches on true Chinese characters. The theme was precisely and accurately captured, and student actors were able to transcend time and identity, bringing to life characters that were vivid, realistic, and full of emotion. Their heartfelt performances moved everyone present, showcasing the charm of drama in this exhibition to the fullest.
HNMMC's original drama "The Great Doctors of Dong Village" highlights our college's educational features of "classroom + original creation + stage + multi-screen", testing the results of the "cultivating character and education through culture" teaching reform on a national stage. In a collaborative creation between teachers and students, a new field for education was constructed, achieving the integration of ideological and political education with real-life situations, promoting the spirit of the times through vivid practice, and telling the Chinese story well.
