To cultivate more high-level information literacy talents in higher vocational college students, the 2023 Information Literacy Competition for Higher Vocational Colleges in Hunan Province was held as scheduled. The competition was hosted in the library of HNMMC, and the campus competition was organized concurrently to select outstanding participants for the main competition.
The competition aims to inspire students in higher vocational colleges to develop a keen interest in information literacy, enhance their abilities in information retrieval, analysis, evaluation, and application, and better utilize information resources by leveraging the advantages of information technology.
With the care of the college leadership and active cooperation from the secondary schools, the campus selection competition was officially launched from October 20th to 24th. The competition, focused on the core content of information literacy, was conducted online for assessment and selection. A total of 252 students and 5 teachers participated in the student and teacher categories of the campus competition. The participants prepared actively before the competition and and demonstrated excellent qualities and abilities during the competition in an organized and calm manner. Ultimately, three outstanding works were selected to represent our college in the teacher category micro-lesson competition of the Information Literacy Competition for Higher Vocational Colleges in Hunan Province. The selected works are titled "Skillful Use of Tools, Aiding Efficient Literature Retrieval and Management", "Illuminating the Entrepreneurial Path with Inventions – Patent Information Retrieval in the Context of College Student Entrepreneurship", and "Efficient Data Recapitulation Combination of Visualization and Data Generate Documents – dycharts and dycharts AI". In the student category of the campus competition, top performers such as Lei Qianqian, Zeng Qiang, Ye Yan, and others, totaling ten students, were chosen to represent the college in the Hunan Province finals.
In the subsequent provincial competition organization, the organizing committee strictly followed the competition plan of the Information Literacy Competition for Higher Vocational Colleges in Hunan Province, adhering to the principles of fairness, justice, and transparency to ensure the authority and professionalism of the competition. Additionally, the committee invited multiple experts to serve as judges, providing professional guidance and support for the competition.
After expert online evaluations, our students Chen Ran and Fu Xiangyi demonstrated outstanding performance, earning them the qualification to represent Hunan Province in the national competition.
This competition aims to cultivate more highly skilled talents with innovative spirit and practical abilities, enhance the information literacy of higher vocational college students, enabling them to better adapt to the development of an information society. The goal is for them to become internationally competitive professionals, collectively advancing the progress of information literacy education in higher vocational colleges in our country.
