On October 24th, HNMMC conducted a training session aimed at enhancing the quality and capabilities of the newly appointed counselors for the year 2023. Zhu Dan, Member of the CPC HNMMC Committee and Vice President, attended the opening ceremony. The event was also attended by the heads of the Student Affairs Department (Military Department), secretaries and deputy secretaries of the party committees of various secondary schools, as well as all newly appointed counselors.
During the morning's opening ceremony, Zhu Dan shared his work experience with the counselors and elucidated his understanding of the counseling profession. He emphasized three key words: firstly, "welcome", expressing sincere greetings on behalf of the college as the Vice President in charge; secondly, "sentiments", encouraging counselors to establish good relationships with students, understand their needs and challenges, and guide them towards forming correct values; and thirdly, "development", urging counselors to continually enhance their professional competence and skills. He emphasized the importance of integrating routine administrative work with professional research to achieve personal career development while excelling in their roles.
Following this, the heads of the Student Affairs Department (Military Department) conducted specialized training on departmental work, covering areas such as student mental health education, dormitory management, and financial aid and education.
In the afternoon, all participants attended a lecture by experts in the auditorium of the Preschool Building at Changsha Normal University, joined by the counseling teams from Changsha Normal University and Hunan Vocational College of Art.
Xiang Fayi, the Director of the Student Affairs Department (Military Department) at Hunan Normal University delivered a lecture on the theme "Broad Vision, Precise Acquisition, Accumulation for Development—Insights into the Career Development and Qualification Enhancement of Counselors from the Perspective of National Policies and Annual Selection of Outstanding National College Counselors". He elaborated on his views on the career development and qualification enhancement paths for counselors, drawing upon national policies and examples from the annual selection of outstanding counselors. Drawing from his rich practical experience, he profoundly explained how counselors should authentically believe, love, be capable, concerned, and diligent at both technical and ethical levels, delivering an insightful course to the participants.
The second lecture was delivered by Zhang Mingming, the Outstanding College Counselor in Hunan Province of the Year 2021 and the Youth League Committee Secretary of the School of Medicine at Hunan Normal University. His presentation focused on "Clarifying Thoughts, Improving Summarization, and Achieving the Transition from Doing the Job to Doing the Job Well". He discussed how counselors can integrate their academic expertise with practical work, continuously enhance their work and innovation capabilities.
Through a full day of training, the newly appointed counselors gained further familiarity with their responsibilities, enhanced their professional qualities, and laid a foundation for the comprehensive, orderly, and efficient implementation of their roles.
