On the evening of January 20, 2023 local time, the Chinese Language Center at Villa College in Maldives held its first Spring Festival Gala at the Assembly Hall of Villa College.
More than one hundred people gathered here together to celebrate the Chinese New Year, including Wang Lixin, Chinese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Maldives, Latheef, Foreign Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, and the representatives of Chinese enterprises, overseas Chinese, China-Maldives Friendship Association, Villa Group, middle and senior management of Villa College, Villa International High School and some local high schools. Fan Wen, the Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice president of Chang'an University, and Li Sanfu, the Secretary of the Party Committee of HNMMC.

Ambassador Wang Lixin and Secretary Latheef delivered New Year's greetings respectively. Wang Lixin expressed her pleasure to witness that since the opening of the Chinese Language Center last year, it has offered not only the Chinese language courses to schools and colleges, but also the Chinese stories told through different ways. The Spring Festival Gala is also a window to present Chinese culture to the Maldivian people. She hoped that the Chinese Language Center will serve as a link of friendship between China and Maldives and build a platform for enhancing academic and cultural exchanges between China and Maldives. On the occasion of the Chinese New Year, Wang Lixin wished everyone a happy, healthy and successful Chinese New Year. Latheef wished the Chinese Language Center at Villa College to be more and more prosperous and wished everyone a happy Chinese New Year and a happy family.
At the party, the representatives of Chinese enterprises, overseas Chinese, Villa staff, Villa International High School students, elementary school students of Brightway International School and children of overseas Chinese, brought wonderful cultural performances combining the cultural characteristics of both China and Maldives, presenting a dazzling audio-visual feast for the audience. At the end, all the Chinese got up on the stage to sing "A Night to Remember", wishing the motherland all the best!
It is reported that Chang'an University and Hunan Mass Media Vocational and Technical College were approved to cooperate with Villa College of Maldives in March 2020 to build the Chinese Language Center at Villa College in Maldives. Thanks to the three schools overcoming the impact of the global pandemic in full cooperation, the first Chinese language center (Confucius Institute) in Maldives, the Chinese Language Center at Villa College, was officially inaugurated on September 28, 2022. This is the first Spring Festival Gala organized by the Chinese Language Center after its opening, which not only builds a platform for Maldivian people to understand Chinese culture, but also sends the warmth of home to Chinese and overseas Chinese in Maldives.
