On July 18, the National Finals of the Innovative Practice Ability Contest of the 14th National College Students Information Security Contest concluded at Harbin Institute of Technology. After two days of competition, a team composed of Chen Qiu from the Computer Network Technology specialty and Lei Yang from the Mobile Internet Application Technology specialty under the guidance of teachers Li Yong and Peng Ting from the School of New Media Technology won the national third prize.
The competition was guided by the Office of the Cyberspace Affairs Commission of the CPC Heilongjiang Provincial Committee, sponsored by the Cyberspace Security Professional Teaching Committee of Higher Schools of the Ministry of Education, and undertaken by Harbin Institute of Technology. The competition has been held for 14 consecutive years and is the highest-level, widest, and most influential information security competition for college students in China. It is a quite authoritative event in the information security industry, and has been selected into the National University and College Students Competition A-level Rankings.
It is reported that the competition started in April and lasted for 3 months, and was divided into online preliminary competition, offline regional competition, and national finals. The competition has a total of 2136 teams registering for the online preliminary contest, 2042 participating teams and 7013 contestants, hitting a new high in the scale. In the end, the 80 teams that won the first prize in the offline regional competition participated in the national finals.
As the only vocational college participating team in this contest, HNMMC’s team was able to compete on the same stage with other 79 teams from undergraduate universities across the country, and achieved good results, fully demonstrating our contestants’ excellent comprehensive quality and professional skill level in information security.
Since the establishment of the Computer Network Technology specialty in the School of New Media Technology, it has successively won honors such as Hunan provincial characteristic major, the first batch of pilot specialty for the connection of secondary and higher vocational education, and the national key teachers training base. The School of New Media Technology has vigorously developed campus competition culture, taking various skill competitions as an opportunity to encourage all teachers and students to compete with each other, "promote learning, teaching and training by competition", and innovated the talent cultivation model to enhance the level of education and teaching reform. Through various competitions, the School has been committed to cultivating students’ innovative spirit and teamwork awareness, expanding their scientific horizons, cultivating, selecting and recommending outstanding information security professionals. Great efforts has been made to improve students’ information security technical skills and comprehensive design capabilities, and accelerate the reform of the curriculum system, teaching content and methods of the Information Security specialty in colleges and universities. The gratifying results have been achieved, such as 1 first prize, 5 second prizes, and 1 third prize in Category A national competitions; 10 first prizes, 6 second prizes, and 7 third prizes in Category A provincial competitions, as well as 2 national third prizes, 1 provincial first prize and third prize in Category B competitions.
