On June 21st, Ouyang Xu, director of the Admissions and Employment Office of our college, was invited for an online interview by the Hunan Education Government Network (gov.hnedu.cn) to communicate with netizens on the theme of "exploring the admission and entrance examination to media colleges under the context of comprehensive reform of college entrance examination".
During the interview, Ouyang Xu introduced the basic situation of our college. Ouyang believed that the college's admission condition is the "barometer" of connotation construction, which manifests the college's comprehensive school-running strength by achieving good results in enrollment. When introducing the enrollment situation in the past five years, he demonstrated the college's achievements in enrollment through comprehensive connotation construction during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period. The first is 99.98% fulfillment ratio of the plan in 2020. The second is 95.12% freshman registration rate in 2020. The third is that the separate admission ratio for higher vocational colleges in 2020 exceeded 3:1, and the ratio of the number of parallel application for admission in Hunan Province to the enrollment number reached 27:1. The ratio of the number of people is as high as 27:1. The fourth is the enrollment mark ranking among the top vocational colleges, whilst the arts specialties of media category has remained a leading position in the province. The fifth is to insist on the school-running orientation, that is, "based in Hunan, facing the country, and serving the cultural industry by highlighting the characteristics of the media" .
When it came to the changes in the new college entrance examination policy, Ouyang explained to the candidates and their parents about the changes in the college’s admission brought by the new college entrance examination in terms of the enrollment marks, college preference, and admission policies. First, the college preference unit for the new college entrance examination has changed from "college" to "college and specialty group". Second, the number of the college preferences turned to be different. Third, candidates' elective exam subjects must meet the requirements of the elective subjects by the intended colleges and majors. The fourth is the adjustment in the time to complete application for intended colleges.
When talking about the application for the intended college, Ouyang briefly introduced a convenient online filing method in the new application system in response to the difficulty caused by the increase of college preferences in the new college entrance examination to candidates and their parents. He mentioned that the Education Examination Authority of the Hunan Province has always kept abreast of the times, doing practical things for candidates and their parents, by launching a new application system that provided an online auxiliary filling and submitting method. It offers all kinds of services, including enrollment plan inquiries, accurate historical data, and preference collection, application drafts, and convenient selection of filling methods, etc.
During the interview, Ouyang Xu elaborated on the comprehensive implementation of the "National Vocational Education Reform Implementation Plan" in our college, and further improved the working ideas of "admission with good quantity and quality" in response to the new college entrance examination. Centering on the construction of Hunan Province with advanced culture and the development demand of the cultural industry, the college has created a professional group with characteristics and advantages and built a diversified talent selection mechanism with the characteristics of the media and arts profession. Ouyang believes that it is necessary to do a good job in enrollment from four aspects: First, in line with the construction standards of undergraduate-level vocational colleges, the college must strengthen the connotation construction of specialties and enhance the ability of professional education and the attractiveness of admission. Second, we should reform the admission system by building a diversified talent selection mechanism with professional characteristics of media arts. Third, the college should improve the "cultural literacy + vocational skills" individual enrollment exams and build a scientific and reasonable evaluation system for the separate entrance examination to higher vocational colleges. Fourth, we must improve the linkage mechanism of admission, training, and employment so as to establish a talent training system with quality features of vocational education.
Ouyang also made a brief introduction to the employment, entrepreneurship, and pursuing for a higher degree among the college graduates. In recent years, the college has strengthened its connotation construction and achieved remarkable results. In 2016, 2018, and 2020, the college was rated as the "Excellent Unit for the Head Project of Employment and Entrepreneurship in General Colleges and Universities in Hunan Province" for three consecutive times. In 2019, it was awarded as the "Incubation Demonstration Base for University Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Hunan Province". First, the employment rate is higher than the provincial average. The second is the continuous enhancement of the employment quality of graduates. In the past five years, the employment quality has been continuously improved, ranking among the best in the province's higher vocational colleges, in terms of the starting salary of graduates, counterpart employment rate, employment rate in the province, graduate satisfaction, and employers’ satisfaction with graduates. Third, the employment structure of graduates is becoming more reasonable, which can be demonstrated by the obvious attention of the employment on the "culture, sports and entertainment industry" with the employment rate of the 2018 and 2019 graduates in the "culture, sports and entertainment industry" up to over 54%. Fourth, the proportion of graduates who start their own businesses has increased year by year. Fifth, the number and proportion of graduates who continue to study has risen annually. A year-to-year percentage increase can be seen in the number and proportion of our graduates who were admitted to undergraduate colleges for further education. 449 graduates in 2020 have passed the entrance exam to university for bachelor degree with the graduate promotion rate of 12.98%.
During the interview, Ouyang Xu answered netizens' questions about the college’s participation in the policy of vocational colleges’ merger and transforming to a public university, the 2021 admission plan, the college's high-quality specialties with characteristics, and the funding system for poverty-stricken students. The interview was successfully concluded in a lively atmosphere with a heated discussion.
