On the afternoon of July 10th, the semi-final of the 17th Chinese Bridge-Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students was held at the Base for International Promotion of Chinese Language and Culture in HNMMC. A total of 152 contestants from 141 areas in 118 countries gathered in the 1,400 square-meters studio competing for the top 30 finalists of the world. Finally, 30 competitors from five continents stood out and entered into the finals; 4 of them came from the Oceania Group, 6 of them came from the African Group, 6 of them came from the American Group, 7 of them came from the European Group and 7 of them came from the Asian Group.
The semi-final of the 17th Chinese Bridge Competition was different from the previous and shared lots of distinctive features. Contestants were grouped by continents, promoted according to the proportion of the contestants in each continent group and asked to write their answers on machines; The proportion of 30% of semi-final points and 70% of preliminary points were accounted into the final score, thus, contestants who got 100 scores frist and ranked top 30 will promote to the final round. The study-shaped stage and cool effect studio of lighting in HNMMC made contestants feel like being in the ocean of books. The competition, covering many field including Chinese history, geography, culture, poetry and Chinese folk, mainly aimed to check their knowledge related to Chinese history, culture and national conditions and the ability in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
The other contestants will go to CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., Hunan Museum, Orange Island and Yuelu Academy for a tour with the guidance of the teachers and volunteers while the top 30 finalists will be trained by the professional teachers for the finals before Friday.
