On December 19th, the School of International Communication held the Lesson Presentation Contest in 2017. Six teachers in the contest respectively presented six courses: Ancient Chinese Literature, College English, Tour Guide Practice, An Introduction To Chinese and Foreign Cultures, International Business Negotiation and Office Automation. The entire faculty including part-time and full-time teachers observed the contest.

On the basis of one course (specialized course needs to have over 30 class hours, common course needs to have over 20 class hours), this contest took advantage of on-the-spot teaching, answering procedure, teaching plan, curriculum and other methods to present the thought and ideas of the course design, the selection and organization of the teaching content, the teaching practice and assessment. The inspection focused on whether teachers were able to properly apply the new concept and demand of the vocational education reform to the course design and implement the teaching plan in teaching practice so as to improve the efficiency of the class teaching. The contest was divided into two parts: the material review and the on-the-spot teaching and answering procedure. The first part included the teaching plans and curriculum submitted by the contestants. The second part covered the statement, presentation with PPT and answering questions from the judges. This part was limited within 15 minutes, among which the class teaching should be less than 10 minutes and the answering procedure, 5 minutes. When answering the questions from judges in the common courses, the teachers were supposed to do improvised performance to show their professional qualities.

After this contest, the Director of the school Sun Yimin remarked that this contest was aiming at promoting the course construction and reform, accelerating the mutual exchange and learning among teachers, and improving the teachers’ teaching ability and the quality of class teaching. The Lesson Presentation contest would continue to be carried out and the great efforts would be made to cover the entire curriculum and faculty in the School of International Communication.
