On September 27th, 2017, the Seminar on Language Management Cadres in Hunan Province & 1st Forum on Language Work was held in the Lecture Hall of Hunan Mass Media Vocational and Technical College. Zuo Qing, Deputy Inspector in the Education Department of Hunan Province attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Ma Yujun, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee and President of the College addressed in the ceremony as well. Chen Xiangsheng, President of the Association of Language Workers in Hunan Province, Feng Yisu, Vice President of the Association, Lei Junlin, Vice President of the College and Wang Junliang, Deputy Director of the Teachers’ Office in the Education Department of Hunan Province were present on the rostrum. Feng Chuanshu, Director of Language Training and Testing Center of Hunan Province, was the chairperson.
In his speech, Ma Yujun extended warm welcome to leaders, experts and scholars attending the seminar and briefly introduced the development of the College. He pointed out that the College, as a national level demonstration college for language standardization, always attached great importance to language management work. Through measures including perfecting managerial institutions, building an excellent team of teachers, setting up standardized courses, establishing practical training platforms, creating a good atmosphere on campus and expanding social influences, good results were made in standardization of Chinese language and relevant work was recognized by the whole society. He added that the College would blaze new trails with a pioneering spirit to conduct relevant work of language standardization so as to make due contributions to language standardization in China.
Zuo Qing extended her heartfelt thanks to the Association of Language Workers in Hunan Province and the College, the cradle of Hunan Broadcasting System. She had several expectations for language workers in Hunan: to strengthen their sense of mission and responsibility, to be in the forefront in the information era with a sound and sustainable development, to enhance cooperativity by studying, judging and getting hold of new characteristics of the development, to grasp new opportunities, to break new grounds with a scientific and practical attitude and a pioneering spirit in spite of hardship, and to make greater contributions to building a harmonious and sound language life and comprehensively constructing the program of “strengthening the province through science and education”.
Chen Xiangsheng expected the activity to further activate the sense of mission of language workers, enhance capability of language managerial cadres and workers, enrich activities in the association, increase the sense of belonging and gaining for its members and build a scientific and research platform for the association.
Feng Yisu read a document for engaging Wang Han as Honorary President of the Association. Zuo Qing issued the appointment letter for Wang Han. Wang Han talked a lot about his experience of language work with members of the Association.
After the opening ceremony, Ma Yujun, Lei Junlin and Wang Han discussed the cultivation of media talents, cooperative education by colleges and enterprises and the enhancement of education level in a symposium.
There are 3,122 registered individual members, 90 group members, 49 council members, 41 executive council members and 4 professional subcommittees in the Association of Language Workers in Hunan Province. During the seminar, participants attended a theme lecture given by Zhang Shiping, Head of Language Application Research Institute of Ministry of Education, watched a language-themed gala organized by teachers and students in the School of Film & Television Art, participated in a discussion about management by objectives and viewed the National Proficiency Test of Putonghua.
